Oh, NieR sequel, how I look forward to you! I truly, truly do. Yesterday, it was beautifully, enigmatically, and unexpectedly unveiled during the 2015 E3 Square Enix Press Conference. Towards the end of the reveal, we caught sight of a woman. But just who that woman? Is it Yonah? Or Kaine? Or someone completely new? I have no idea, but the speculation is there.
Though supposedly, according to the NieR Wiki, the person is a new female protagonist.
To tease us a bit more, however, PlatinumGames has plastered a juicy piece of artwork in the latest issue of the Weekly Famitsu. What is it of? A giant robot, settled in ruins of an apartment complex (?). At the very least, this indicates that this new title has retained the feel of the original. It definitely feels like NieR. The artwork is absolutely gorgeous, and if this tips off the graphical quality and art direction, we have another aspect of the game to look forward to.
One of the big questions that we catch ourselves asking is, "Just what is the role that our robot will play?" Nevertheless, the robot is rather large--larger than the ones found in the Junk Heap in the original. It appears that the robot is either dormant or just awakening, but I believe that it is dormant (just its "eyes" are open), since the doves (?) are flying past it and not away from it. However, they are in flight in an upward trajectory, and, if these are doves, which symbolize peace and love, it could mean that the peace has been disturbed once more. ...Which would probably be an automatic assumption, given the that most video games come with the initial plot of peace disturbance.
Maybe the bot just opened its eyes, as the doves sensed the danger and flew off in search of a safe haven. I suppose we will just have to wait a bit before we find out anything. Now that I think of it, it could be a prequel, not a sequel...
