Well. If you needed another reason to hate Konami, here it is.
PT—now known as the Preview for Things that will never be—raised an insane amount of excitement for Konami and Silent Hill fans everywhere. It wasn’t that the game was getting two amazingly talented individuals working on it in collaboration—it was the fact that it looked like the first “good” Silent Hill since Silent Hill 3. The franchise has had a rough time as of late being actually scary, as it jumps from developer to developer like a prostitute when the sailors make shore. It’s just never reached the same heights, but it looked like PT, which was a masterwork of puzzle solving and horror that could finally bring true terror back to those quiet earth-mounds.
But then Konami entered a falling out with Kojima. PT was removed, Silent Hills was canceled, and gamers everywhere mourned. But it wasn’t enough for Konami to ruin our hopes for Silent Hill—they had go to ahead and pee on the shattered remains.
Let’s take a look at the next Silent Hill game, recently announced:
Yep. It’s a Silent Hill 2 themed pachinko-slot machine. Good. Times. Also, if you watched that trailer with headphones on: I’m really, really, really sorry. Unsurprisingly, the reaction so far has been extremely negative, especially with the promise of PT still stuck in people’s minds. But this is what we are now. This is our new life—being disappointed and ashamed in Konami as it cannibalizes its IP. I’d suggest you pray to your god now, but sadly, your faith has been disproven by now. All faiths. No gods, benevolent or otherwise, can exist in the same universe as Konami. Weep in disgust and shame—your hopes are dust, and the joy of today is just the last glimmer of the sun in a quickly-fading dusk.
…that might be overreacting a bit, I admit.
