Halo Fans, you may want to halt your excitement for Halo 5 temporarily, as an unexpected bomb has been recently dropped.

Syber Interactive Studio and publisher Innova revealed a free-to-play multiplayer first-person shooter called Halo Online. As in, it's based on the Halo franchise. It will be coming exclusively on the PC and will be powered by a reworked version of the Halo 3 Engine.

Okay, you can go back to being excited for Halo 5, console fans.

What is possibly a little bit of a downer is that the game will release in Russia, so a North American or European release is uncertain.

And now most of us can cry.

According to the Russian website SHAZOO, the following features will be available in Halo Online:
  • The game will include special packages and abilities: fighting, safety and support.
  • The system will be similar to the perks system in Call of Duty
  • Characters have levels, but the maximum level has not been revealed
  • Maps are specifically designed for Halo Online and for 16 people
  • Players will receive trials and missions like score a head-shot, jump ten times, kill 30 enemies, etc.
  • Players can find different weapons like Bazookas all over the map
  • When you are respawning, you can change class and weapons
  • Backstabbing is confirmed
  • There are five slots per class, of which two are available immediately
  • The game does have a lobby system
  • Each piece of armor has its own parameters such as movement speed
  • The plot and PVE missions have not been considered
  • Team Slayer and Assassination modes have been confirmed
  • Microsoft is co-distributing the game in Russia
Seems unfortunate, but there will be a guarantee that several players outside of Russia will try to access this F2P game.

In the meantime, let's hope that there will a be European and North American release. Well, if not, we always have the anticipated Halo 5 to keep us company.
