Yesterday, Tetsuya Nomura talked about how the remake of Final Fantasy VII will come with some changes, whether fans like it or not, but he didn't provide a reason as to why they decided to jump on-board for the remake--what feels like abruptly, might I add.
So let's quote his reason, derived from a translated interview with Siliconera:
"Actually, we've had plans for a remake on several occasions. Up until now, it's been a cycle of having plans come and go, but this time, we've finally decided 'let's do it'."
Seems reasonable, correct? Just kind of leap gungho into the fray. It's now or never! Speaking of now or never:
"And there's one more thing. We're hitting that age."
Yes, it has to do with age, which is valid reasoning. It could take a long while for this game to develop and release, after all.
"Of all the staff that worked on the original Final Fantasy VII, and those who are working on the remake, I'm the youngest one. I'm 45 years old now. If we continued on without doing a remake, [Yoshinori] Kitase and [Kazushige] Nojima are well older than me... so, yeah.
With this timing and opportunity in mind, we decided to just go for it."
The Final Fantasy VII remake will be a timed PlayStation 4 exclusive with no release date announced. However, we can look forward to additional information, such as the actual title of the remake, this winter.
