Destiny to Boost Levels with The Taken King Expansion

Well, this is good news, right? Right!?

Oh Destiny, you're beginning to learn, and that's such a beautiful realization. Though at the same time, this piece of news could come at a whiplash for veterans of the MMO shooter. Here's a scenario for you: Imagine pre-ordering a copy of The Taken King. You waited a year after hearing all the bad press and criticisms about it, even if your friends have begged you to purchase a copy so you can play with them. But now there's a glimmer of hope as the new expansion appears rather tempting, correcting mistakes made during Year 1. But you want to purchase the full game, expansions, and expac for all at the same price. With this thought in mind, you realize that you will be unable to play with your friends from the get-go, because they are already many levels ahead of you.

So what are you to do? Ask them to help you catch up? But they more than likely won't, considering the temptation of new content.

Bungie has a solution to this dilemma with this announcement, similar to the approach taken to the leveling system of World of Warcraft: With every copy of The Taken King, players will have a single character boosted to level 34, so they can jump right into the expansion, with or without friends.

The leveling system will also change, more so than removing light from leveling factors. Bungie will eliminate light altogether, so those at level 20 can just earn experience to 40.

In a way, this can prove problematic for veterans, who are probably seething with complaints of, "They didn't work for their leveling." They didn't, as the statement is true for up to level 34, but at the same time, this gives players who have been shying away from the title an opportunity to play with friends who are veterans.

Hooray friendship!

Destiny: The Taken King will release September 15, 2015 for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Playstation 4.

Time to indulge in a sweet Gamescom trailer featuring the guardians!
