Oh, YouTube is finally readying its big guns! We thought the day would never come, but today, Google's video service has announced the upcoming launch Twitch streaming's new rival: "YouTube Gaming." Arriving later this summer, YouTube Gaming will come complete with its own new website and app to keep gamers connected to the gaming culture. Videos, live streams, and a community will be there, waiting for you all in one place.
The curtains rose on this service during a special preview event at YouTube Space LA for top gaming creators like iHasCupcake, NadeShot, HikePlays, and Typical Gamer. A long-time coming, gaming needed its own venue on YouTube as let's plays, walkthroughs, speedruns, news, and reviews continuously flow onto the site, so this launch is the long-awaited answer. At the launch of YouTube Gaming, more than 25,000 games will have their very own special page, leading to more efficient browsing and searching. Additionally, users can add games to their collection for quick access, subscribe to channels to receive notifications of live streams.
Live streaming will also be simpler for players in the coming weeks, as YouTube is redesigning the system with added benefit of no longer scheduling a live event ahead of time. YouTube gaming will launch this summer in two regions, the U.S. and U.K.
For the lucky E3 attendees, they will be able to witness demonstrations of the new experience at the YouTube booth from June 16-18. For us not-so-lucky ones, YouTube will reveal the latest information on the features, perform demonstrations, and take part in interviews at youtube.com/e3.
Do you believe that YouTube will overpower Twitch or become a lost effort?
Or will it have its own fanbase to be comfortable with, so Twitch and YouTube can continue to live harmoniously?
