You Need CoD: Infinite Warfare for the Modern Warfare Remaster

Uh oh.

Earlier, we reported that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remaster could be purchased without having a copy of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Pretty good news, all things considered, because there is a lot of interest in the first, and arguably, best game in the series, but a lot of negative interest in their latest game, which looks like Halo and Battlefield hate-screwed each other and gave birth to an abomination.

Unfortunately, it seems the celebration may have been premature: because while you can certainly purchase Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remaster without having a Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare disk, you won't be able to PLAY it without having an Infinite Warfare disk in your system. So... it seems the two are, rather distressingly, still tied to the hips. From the Modern Warfare Remastered page:

"Modern Warfare Remastered is a full game download (game disc must be inserted to play Modern Warfare Remastered). Internet connection required"

Given that Modern Warfare Remastered is a purely digital product, last we heard, one of two things are true: either a physical copy of the game is being released and this is a very badly-written note, or Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is really that necessary. Now, given that you can still play the remaster if you have a digital version of Infinite Warfare, one thing seems painfully clear: this is an effort by Activision to keep people from buying the game for Modern Warfare, then returning it to their local game retailer.

Sneaky, sneaky. Now, it's always possible I'm wrong, we're only speculating based on the official website, but it really wouldn't be unlike Activision to hold what players really want hostage until they buy their stupid, uninspired sci-fi adventure. So my hopes aren't high.
