When I think of browser games, a few things come to mind. Miniclip and flash games are the obvious ones, and I definitely couldn't leave out Runescape. Usually, I would say that browser games are basically only for children, but in some cases, there are some pretty cool browser games that are actually worth your time. Inspired by in-development open-source OpenTomb project, a modder by the name of XProger has made a browser version of the original 1996 Tomb Raider titled "OpenLara".
While OpenLara isn't a complete re-create of the game, you can play the full City Of Vilcabamba level right now chalked full with aggressive packs of wolfs, bats and bears. Oh, my! OpenLara offers the experience of the familiar 1996 version of Tomb Raider with increased framerates as the original was capped at 30 FPS. OpenLara also features first person as well as third-person. First-person is definitely a nice touch as it provides a more intense experience when jumping, vaulting and fighting. As intense as the 1996 version of Tomb Raider can get anyway.
Usually, I wouldn't really mess around with any browser games, but OpenLara is definitely worth a quick playthrough, especially if you're a fan of the series. Although if you haven't played any retro PC games in a while, then the controls might be a bit of a learning curve for you. Find more information about OpenLara here, and play it in your browser here.
