Borderlands 3 is coming (to the Epic Game Store, like it or not) soon, and as you’re probably well aware, it’s a game where “loot” plays a pretty big role. You kill enemies and they drop loot, you open a chest and you get loot, you complete a quest and you get loot, you explore to find hidden areas to get loot… it’s all about finding brand-new guns and mods to shake things up, or even just sell for a pretty penny (so you can buy more, better loot).

So it really shouldn’t come as a surprise that the folks at Gearbox are making sure loot plays a role in every aspect of the game: including for Twitch streams. Which is why they’re happy to reveal a brand-new Twitch extension for the game called Echocast.

Echocast will do two things: its primary function is to project the streamer’s loadout in an interactive overlay menu. Watchers can select weapons and items, which will then display their stats, which is the perfect way to ensure the streamer doesn’t spend all their time telling their stream what items they’re using.

But it also comes with a neat bonus feature: when the streamer finds a special chest, viewers are given a short amount of time to opt into a special event. Those who opt in are then thrown into a lottery, and the winner of said lottery will win the chance to select one item in that loot chest and bring it with them into their own game of Borderlands 3, scaled to their level: so you can actually earn loot just by watching people play.

Not gonna lie, that’s pretty darn cool.

Echocast launches on the first of May: well before the game is released, but on the same day as a special preview live stream of the game. That means you can start stocking on some sweet new guns before the game even launches.

Which is pretty on-brand.
