Yooka-Laylee is probably one of the most highly anticipated games of 2017 so far, and that's the same year we're going to get Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Persona 5. That's how badly people are longing for the nostalgic wonder of yesteryear's old-school collect-a-thon. It's also probably the new hope for the resurgence of the creator-driven Kickstarter revolution. Now that Mighty No. 9 has flopped so phenomenally, it's up to Yooka-Laylee, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, and Thimbleweed Park to redeem it.
Well, Thimbleweed Park is set to launch next month, and since Bloodstained won't be coming until 2018, that means it'll be up to Yooka-Laylee to pick up the slack if it, too, should fail. While the game has yet to have its release date officially launched, an ad on the Microsoft store suggests that Yooka-Laylee will be launched April 11, 2017, for $39.99.
That's soon, but looking at the screenshots, I frankly feel it's not soon enough. Dang, I never realized how much I missed the old Rare platforms until I saw these videos and screens. It's astonishing how well they recapture the atmosphere of those games.
Also exciting? Local co-op! It seems the folks at Playtonic are bringing everything back!
Here's hoping it plays as good as it looks.
