Both are so different that you'll want to nab each of them.

Ah, the original Corpse Party brings back some fun times. Memories of riding a train to North Carolina for a visit, humming along to the theme songs on the PSP title surface. I expected nothing too scary... I mean, these kids were adorable sprites!

Until I heard and saw some of the most grotesque events I ever witnessed in a video game. The sound of flesh being munched on definitely imprinted a memory that will never escape my head.

Corpse Party gained its own niche following in the West back in 2011, thanks to its cruel and deep story featuring naive high school children trapped inside a haunted elementary school.

For the longest time, the only way Western fans were able to play the original was by purchasing the PSP version. But now, that the opportunities to play have expanded, soon hitting the Nintendo 3DS and...

...The PC . Yup, the 3DS and PC both are getting the their own versions of the original Corpse Party, both with own unique extras not seen outside Japan. First, the 3DS version. This version will be available as a limited 'Back to School Edition' physical edition, priced at $49.99. Included in the special edition are high-quality miniature figurines of Naomi Nakashima and Seiko Shinohara (well, just knowing that tore my heart into tiny pieces), as well as a soundtrack CD featuring 80 minutes of music, three of which being exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS version. Alongside the special edition will be, of course, a digital eShop edition for $29.99.

Keep in mind that the 3DS version is a remastered version of the 2011 PSP title, meaning redrawn, high-res sprites, newly arranged tracks, 3D art stills, and four new Extra Chapters that are exclusive to this version that touched upon the more obscure characters and plot points in the game.

Color me excited.

And just 11 days from now, on April 25, Corpse Party will have a digital release on Windows PC for Steam, GOG.com, and the Humble Store by Humble Bundle for $14.99. This is different from the 3DS version in the fact that it was localized directly from the original indie PC version, which was never released outside of Japan. Unique to this version are original art and voice-acting, alongside some new features including multiple endings and scenes that differ from both the PSP and Nintendo 3DS versions. Not only that, but the game will also feature four bonus chapters on top of the five main story chapters, of which one is actually the PC-exclusive retelling of the "Tooth" story in Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, specifically recreated with the classic Corpse Party style in mind. There's also a fast-forward option for those that want chase after every ending.

Personally, I highly recommend and urge everyone into the horror genre--even a little into the genre--to play this game. In fact, I enjoyed the game so much, I bought at least three copies of the PSP version, two of them for friends at the time because I wouldn't shut up about it.

After all, there's nothing quite like it out there. You can check out our review of the third game, in case you enjoy the first game.
