XCOM 2: War of the Chosen was already announced a few days ago at the PC Gamer E3 stream. After seeing the trailer live, I was extremely impressed with the expansion, but I had no idea just how large it really was. I mean, the developers talked about adding new factions, hero classes, and a brand new enemy, but as more and more details came out, the more amazed I became.

In a post-E3 interview with Polygon, XCOM designer Jake Solomon actually said that that the team was considering making War of the Chosen into XCOM 3. The biggest reason they decided against it was due to the narrative needing to be completely replaced if this was going to be a standalone title. Instead, they will be releasing a massive expansion on August 29th for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.

It has also been announced that, at some point in the future, a Mac version will be coming out as well!

Check out some of War of the Chosen's key features right down below.
  • New Resistance Heroes - Three new factions to fight with - Reapers, Skirmishers, and Templars - each having their own unique Hero class.
  • New Enemy - You will be facing off against The Chosen, a sneaky alien force that wants to destroy XCOM.
  • New Chosen Classes - The Hunter, The Warlock, and The Assassin classes will be hunting for your head.
  • Challenge Mode - Community challenges that rank players and give them higher standing on the global leaderboard.
  • Enhanced Strategy, Tactics, and Customization - You can manage relations with other factions from the Avenger, go through a brand new storyline and experience unseen territories, and learn new abilities and perks!
