With apps like Netflix and Hulu becoming widely popular, watching TV has become less and less common. Though there are obviously some shows that we just can't get on those apps, and so people pay for TV channels. Well, Xbox Owners in the UK can get rid of their television plan because a free TV app is now available for download. Simply named, TVPlayer, Xbox owners will have access to over 100 channels for free. Hopefully, the channels are good.

This is the first time that console players will be able to watch free TV, and hopefully, this trend catches on to other consoles. I can't help but wonder whether this is designed to combat the growing popularity of android boxes. Paying for television is just getting downright unnecessary these days with the internet, and I think Xbox has caught on to this. While the Xbox One is obviously a gaming console, people tend to enjoy a system that can "do it all". A multi-media platform. This is definitely a step in the right direction, and it'll be interesting to see if PlayStation and Nintendo follow their lead.

Of course, although the app is free, they put in an option to pay for extra channels. It's definitely not required, but subscribing to TVPlayer for £5.99 a month will provide you with 25 extra channels. This is great news for UK owners, but where's the free TV for the rest of us? Oh well. Android boxes are still the best possible way to get free television without any monthly costs, but more options couldn't hurt. If you hail from the UK, make sure to download the app and check out what channels it has to offer. It couldn't hurt.
