Xbox is looking to the future, but perhaps a bit too far. The game company has announced their latest console variant: The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition.
They've noticed that digital content is becoming increasingly popular. Folks like not having to switch discs all the time. Catering to those types of gamers, the Xbox One S All-Digital is a slightly more affordable version of the Xbox One S, with the caveat of not having a disc drive.
To get folks started, each Xbox One S All-Digital Edition comes with three pre-installed games, Minecraft, Forza Horizon 3 and Sea of Thieves. Otherwise, the console will offer everything that the standard Xbox One S does, as long as it doesn't require a disc reader. It will also be a touch cheaper, costing $249.99 USD, $50 less than a standard Xbox One S.
Not everyone is happy about this idea, however. Many gamers prefer to have physical copies of their games. The removal of the option means that they can no longer give their games to their friends, purchase pre-owned games, or play any physical movie discs. Some folks have taken to abbreviating the "S All-Digital" to call it the Xbox One SAD.
Xbox will continue to support the disc-drive based models, at least.
If you're interested in the disc-drive free model, it will become available on May 7 for $249.99.
