Microsofts chief marketing officer of gaming Mike Nichols spoke about the medium in an interview with Gamesindustry.biz
We dont have any plans specific to Xbox consoles in virtual reality or mixed reality.
. . .
Our focus is primarily on experiences you would play on your TV.
Nichols also stated that PC is probably the best platform for virtual and mixed reality (which is true).
Xbox was very enthusiastic about VR a few years ago. Though with the slow climb the rather niche medium has had since then, companies like Microsoft are curbing their investments.
I don't blame them for making this decision. Between the Rift and the PSVR, I can't imagine Xbox bringing anything appealing enough to convert me. And with the still high investment cost to get into VR, most people willing to spend that kind of money already have on the options currently available.
