Ouch. Ready for a third delay?

Mortal Kombat X may indeed suffer from a second brutality - one caused by another delay on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. According to some retailers, the release dates have changed to later. For instance, Amazon and GameStop now lists Mortal Kombat X for December 31st, 2015 instead of June 2nd, which suggests that the game is still due for release this year, but later than expected.

GameStop confirmed the second delay with Kotaku, informing customers on Friday that the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game have been delayed until fall. This is unfortunate for fans looking forward to the port. That being said, there are some locations, like Target and Wal-Mart, that have not changed the release date, though Wal-Mart supposedly will ship the game June 30th.

Then again, this delay raises quite a few issues. Many players have already migrated to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, so porting, especially a delayed-by-at-least five months port, to weaker consoles may actually act as a backlash, resulting in a loss of revenue. Mortal Kombat X fever is current, but it could lose its steam by the time the game actually releases. Additionally, porting from current gen to earlier gen can be incredibly difficult, sometimes resulting in the stripping of several of the game's assets, i.e. the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Shadow of Mordor.

Hopefully there will not be a third delay. Mortal Kombat X was originally launched back in April for the PC, PlayStation 4, and PC editions. High Voltage Software is currently developing on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Mortal Kombat X. Unfortunately, there has been no confirmation from Warner Brothers quite yet, but here's hoping.
