WWE and Rocket League Team Up, for Some Reason

It's probably a good reason, to be fair.

World Wrestling Entertainment – more broadly known as WWE – is known for many things, but selective partnerships are not one of them. They’ve done everything from produce movies, sponsor games, team up with DC and Archie comics… and while some might argue their creative talent, none can argue that they’re ambitious, and are willing to try just about anything with their goofy cast of masked wrestlers.

Even so, this next partnership strikes me as something of a stretch: apparently they’re gonna be teaming up with Rocket League in the near future.

Yeah. Rocket League.

"Throughout 2018, you can expect to see Rocket League all over the WWE universe. From regular appearances on UpUpDownDown, WWE’s YouTube gaming channel with Austin Creed a.k.a. WWE Superstar Xavier Woods to sponsorships at live WWE events—you may have even seen us on Elimination Chamber just last night. We’re also very excited to be a partner of WrestleMania 34, where we’ll have Rocket League playable for attendees at one of the biggest sports and entertainment events in the world in New Orleans the weekend of April 8."

This partnership also means WWE stuff will likely show up in Rocket League as well, although developer Psyonix hasn’t been explicit as to what kind of stuff that will be. Off the top of my head, car skins and ornaments seem like the most obvious choice, but a new, wrestling-inspired game mode and arena might also be within the realm of possibility. It’s a very versatile game, it could manage.

That said, it’s not exactly the kind of thing I would have imagined myself. Not to say it’s bad or anything, it’s just… well… a stretch. The only way I can see it going especially well is if the wrestlers start using little RC cars in their matches… and in that case, they should have done this YEARS ago.
