Its growing, evolving, becoming something stronger than we were ready for. Introducing World War Z: Aftermath, an enhanced upgrade to the zombie survival game.

This information was announced during the IGN Expo on Friday. A new trailer, showcasing the dangers of the living dead, caught our attention before revealing what it was.

So what exactly is it then? World War Z: Aftermath is an upgrade, not a sequel or a DLC. It will replace the base edition of the game, offering everything before, with new features and functionality. Itll be kind of like how Dark Souls: Remastered replaced the original game on digital storefronts.

Aftermath brings next-gen support with it, enabling 4k and 60fps functionality on the PS5 and Xbox Series X. It will also introduce new story locations: Rome, Vatican City, and the Kamchatka peninsula in Russia. Players can now choose a new Vanguard class, and choose new perks when progressing.

One of the more notable gameplay changes is the duel wielding support, allowing players to hold two melee weapons at the same time. Theres new unique moves and perks for melee to further support this idea. All of this will help fight against the new zombie variations they can encounter, such as undead rat swarms.

PC and Next Gen consoles will also be able to support a new Horde XL mode, which adds hundreds more on-screen zombies. This particular feature will be released some time later than the rest of the update.

World War Z: Aftermath will release later this year on PC and consoles for $40. Those that own the original game will be able to upgrade to the Aftermath version for $20. Next gen console will be released early 2022, and be offered as a free upgrade to previous gen versions (that fully upgrade).
