World of Warships Enters Open Beta

Time to blow some expensive stuff up.

Despite the little kerfuffle earlier when Wargaming.net decided to try to play Grinch with a recent Humble Bundle offer, World of Warships is still a pretty highly anticipated MMO. World of Tanks is one of the best-selling, hottest MMOs out on the web, and bringing that same high-octane explosive warfare to naval combat certainly seems exciting! However, the game has been in development for years now and closed beta for the past few months… Surely it’ll be ages before we get to play the game-

-Wait. I’m being told it just entered open Beta today. Well. That’s convenient!

"Massive battleships; swift destroyers; tactical aircraft carriers; versatile cruisers—how will you conquer the high seas? World of Warships has chartered a course for Open Beta, so take the helm and get ready for naval warfare like never before."

Like its predecessors, World of Warplanes and World of Tanks, World of Warships is an online free-to-play wargame where up to twenty-four captains battle for supremacy on ten maps (ten… sections of water?) with over eighty different types of ships to choose from—between carriers, warships, and cruisers. And, on top of all that, it looks straight-up hella fun. Wargaming Producer Jake Neri explains:

"'World of Warships' closed beta was strong out of the gate and showed no signs of slowing as players and streamers embraced the game, then took to the high seas for legendary naval combat. Participation was solid and a community of passionate, dedicated players was born to help shape the game with their feedback. We can only match that by working on the game with just as much passion. Building on all of this enthusiasm we look forward to welcoming even more players into the Open Beta test for a game we are so proud of."

So, there you have it. I, for one, would love to play if I had a computer capable of handling it, but I know more than a few enthusiasts who will be thrilled to give this a shot. Full speed ahead, captains!
