Witcher 3's Expansions Will Almost Be the Size of Witcher 2

Combined, so don't go thinking they're each 50 hours long.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, early Game of the Year Contender for 2015, has a lot going for it. It’s got a lively world populated with memorable characters, it’s got good combat (as western RPGs go, in any case), a lot of customization, stuffed unicorn sex, and most importantly, the backing of good developers… who, in the weeks since its launch, have been handing out free DLC packs to the world—sometimes as simple as new armor, other times as cool as a new quest chain or a new haircut.

But that doesn’t mean CD Projekt Red isn't planning on giving away all its DLC! No sir, The Witcher 3 will also have expansion packs, which will cost $25 USD a pop—a pretty big chunk of change, considering there will be two to buy—so the both of them will cost as much as a normal game! Whatever could these expansion packs offer to be worth the cost?

Does “enough content to rival the size of The Witcher 2” grab your attention? Because it certainly grabbed Game Reactor’s attention during their interview with developer Konrad Tomaszkiewicz:

"The expansion packs will be whole new storylines with all the elements you've got in the main story (like cutscenes, new characters, new items, new Gwent cards) and many, many more. They will be quite long. The first expansion will be around 10 hours and the second expansion will be around 20 hours... and I think it's possible that they will be bigger, because it's always like this (that when we plan some time or hours, it's twice or something like this), but I'm not promising anything right now. And even now, if you sum up this 10 to 20 hours and you compare it to The Witcher 2, it's almost the size of The Witcher 2. And it will be cool, it will be new stories, it will be very emotional stories and I think that people will be happy,"

An exciting claim, and normally a hard one to believe, if anyone other than CD Projekt Red were making it. But these guys have a great history and reputation for this kind of thing, so hopes, at least on my end, are rather high.

Heart of Stone, the first expansion, will be out later this year, while Blood and Wine will be out early 2016. Feel that hype train comin’ into station!
