A
couple of weeks ago, just days after the release of
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the developers of a Wii U emulator called
Cemu were able to get it running straight out of the box. While the game did run, it definitely was not playable, but it still showed potential and definitely got fans of the game who simply can't afford the Switch, pretty excited. When they first showcased the game, it only ran at about 15 frames per second or less, and only the first few minutes of the game were actually playable. There were numerous other glitches, most of which have now been fixed, along with a more consistently high frame rate.
A new video released by
Cemu shows the progress that they've made with the game so far. Gameplay seems to be running at a somewhat consistent 30 frames per second for most of the video other than in specific situations like when Link spin attacks an enemy. While it's still not perfect, its definitely a huge improvement for 2 weeks of work, and it actually looks playable to the point that it wouldn't just be a waste of an experience. Previously in their first build, swimming was glitched, grass was rendering beneath the ground and several of Link's abilities such as Magnesis and Stasis were completely impossible to use. All of these issues have been fixed.
The video is edited to show the specific improvements they've made, including the glitches that they've fixed, but overall it showcases how we can actually play and enjoy the game in its current state. Let's hope it stays available for the time being.
Cemu is releasing this build of the game (1.7.4) on April second making it available to Patreon subscribers only while making it available to the general public a week later.
