Before Halo 5: Guardians was even released, 343 industries were already talking about the development of Halo 6 (subtitle hasn't been announced yet), stating that they already had a good idea of what the story was going to be like, and how Master Chief's story, more or less, will end. Of course, back in 2011 at Pax Prime, 343 industries announced that Halo 4 was the start of The Reclaimer Trilogy, leading us to believe that Halo 6 would be the third and final chapter.
Moving forward into 2013, Microsoft changed its mind, stating that they decided not to limit The Reclaimer Trilogy, but instead turn it into more of a saga. Definitely a smart move on Microsoft's end seeing as Halo is an extremely popular franchise that is deeply rooted in the hearts and minds of millions of gamers worldwide. I don't think 343 or Microsoft want the franchise to come to and end as much as the fans don't want it to end. It's both a past-time and a cash cow at this point, and I think this cow will be milked for decades to come.
A Few Things Halo 6 could do to Milk that Cow...
Xbox boss Phil Spencer even went to the extent of comparing Halo to the size and power of Star Wars and Spiderman, explaining that he thinks Halo will still be popular 20 years from now. In an interview conducted by GamesRadar, Bonnie Ross agreed with Phil Spencer's statement, explaining that Bungie's work with Halo: Reach and Halo: ODST laid down "the fictional foundation for the next 20 years" of halo.
As far as actual specifics go, neither Microsoft nor 343 have released any information about either the story or even the release date of Halo 6. The last year has been relatively quiet with news for the next Halo, but many fans are speculating we will get some information regarding Halo 6 with the release of the Xbox Scorpio since it's without a doubt the best console to campaign Microsoft's crown jewel franchise with. At this point, we can only speculate, but I think it's relatively safe to assume that Halo 6 will follow Halo 5: Guardians footsteps more or less with its more fast-paced approach to combat including ADS (aim down sight) mechanics. We can also conclude that Halo 6 will most likely feature co-operative campaign the same as Halo 5: Guardians.
What else could Halo 6 add? Aliens!
Aside from the fantasy of a new threat, as far as hopes and dreams go, hopefully Halo 6 will launch with features like Forge and Theatre upon launch, and things like ranked and social playlists, since many players had problems with Halo 5: Guardians ranking system and lack of a relaxed playlist after launch.
