It's that time of year again. Nerds from all over the U.S. escape from the summer heat and gather to speedrun their favorite games, all while raising money for charity. It's Summer Games Done Quick 2019!

Every year, the Games Done Quick organization hosts a number of special events where they organize a week-long live stream for charity. The live stream will broadcast a wide selection of community speedrunners as they play their favorite games. During this time, they are taking donations to go toward a charity, which varies with each event. Participants can enter raffles for gaming-themed prizes or vote on small changes to upcoming speedruns such as character names or endings using their donations.

Summer Games Done Quick 2019 began on Sunday and will be a non-stop live stream until Sunday, June 30. They are raising money for Doctors Without Borders, the usual SGDQ charity of choice.

They'll be playing just about every game you can think of at the event, ranging from Metroid Prime at 10:38 PM on Monday to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim at 8:04 AM on Saturday. Be sure to check out the full schedule and set some reminders for when your favorite game is about to go live.

If you plan on donating, which we encourage if you can safely afford to do so, you might also want to check out the official Prize Index. If there is a particular prize you're interested in, it might be worth timing your donation accordingly.

Last year, SGDQ raised $2.1 million for Doctors Without Borders, a new record for the organization.

Aside from SGDQ, the Games Done Quick organization is also known for a few variations on their events, such as Awesome Games Done Quick, Awful Games Done Quick, and Games Done Quick Express. This year, they are planning a GDQx event this September, which will raise money for the AbleGamers Foundation. More info about that on their website.

GDQ is a fantastic organization that brings the gaming community together for a good cause, even if you can't donate, we recommend watching the live stream.
