When people buy into a Left 4 Dead clone, especially one set in the brutal and unforgiving world of Warhammer, they sort of have to expect the game is gonna be pretty hard. That ebb and flow of watching your HP bar inevitably sink while you charge forward, praying for either the Shadow Gate or at least a health potion, is part of what makes games like these so thrilling. But while myself and other fans are no strangers to challenges – and I happen to be a big fan of them, considering my preference for Dark Souls games – there’s such thing as too much challenge, a line that the first release of Vermintide 2 had firmly crossed.
In fact, when I first started playing, even running into a Bile Troll was basically a prolonged Game Over sequence. I thought they were impossible to kill.
So while some purists might gawk, the folks at Fat Shark have decided that it’s time to tone things back a peg or seven, and with the release of Patch 1.05, they’re bringing a wave of buffs and nerfs to the game that will dramatically decrease the game’s challenge, and give anxious warriors a fighting chance against the games more brutal foes.
The full list of changes, which are quite dramatic, can be found right here. They include improvements to all the characters you can play as, as well as a series of nerfs for the enemies to make them a bit easier to manage. The loot chests have also got a small buff, allowing you to higher power limits before you need the next tier of loot box to continue improving your stats. There are also a small number of usability and UI changes that will make it easier to see things at a glance, and friendly fire damage has been reduced at higher difficulties.
Is it too much? For some, maybe, but for others it’s exactly what they need to have fun slaying those filthy rats. Happy hunting, no matter what camp you fall into!
