With the massive overload of VR items on the market, whether it's games or actual devices, Microsoft hasn't announced anything for their consoles. Does this mean that might Microsoft can't produce a decent VR headset? No, absolutely not. I think Microsoft is actually playing this one really well. They want to sit back, take their time, and wait until VR games stop feeling like demos and experiments.

If you have a VR headset and a couple of games for it, I'm sure you can agree with this statement. Even some of the biggest VR supporters still say that these games feel small, incomplete, and have a demo-like quality to them. If you're going to be spending hundreds of dollars on a headset and then hundreds more on games to fuel it, don't you want to get a great product? Isn't your money worth that to you?

Well, Microsoft thinks it is and they don't want to do any VR work until people start finding what works. VR is still this brand new little baby and nobody knows what it's going to grow up and become. Developers are trying little things that end up being really cool, like being able to go to Mars, but there are no long-term investments into these experiences. The true potential of VR isn't being unlocked by game designers right now because they don't know how to approach it.

Now, Scorpio is designed as a VR-ready console, so that's not an issue here at all. Microsoft tried the Kinect, and while it was a success for some games, many titles did poorly on it. People can use it to dance or workout, but not to play Gears of War or Battlefield. VR needs to find its sweet spot in the gaming world, and until that happens, Microsoft doesn't want to waste its cash or time on a headset.
