The VR Battle is beginning at last

The Oculus Rift is coming, and pre-orders have officially opened… then closed, because they sold out really quickly, despite the 600 buck price tag that caused so many people to double-take. People are excited about VR again, or at least, more excited than they’ve been in a very long time, and so every eye in the gaming world has shifted at least partially to the Oculus Rift.

I could have probably made some kind of vision pun. I’m too tired for that right now.

Point is, things are heating up, and while everyone is talking about Oculus, people have forgotten there are other VR headsets with hats in the ring--and Valve, at least, has decided it’s time to remind the world. Thus, they have just announced that the Vive, their own VR headset, will be available for pre-order as well… next month. Specifically, Feburary 29th.

Cool. Now, it won’t be good or bad news until we know how much these pre-orders cost (since it would be nice to have a cheaper alternative to the Oculus Rift), but at least it gives us a hard date to look forward too. We’ll have to see then. In the meantime, I’d start saving my pennies and dimes anyway. Just in case.
