Eric Limer recently wrote a report on the new Oculus Rift on Gizmodo, claiming he "never wanted to look at real life again" after playing a few basic games with the device. The previous model was a great proof of concept, but this newer model, dubbed Crystal Cove, shows us that it's the future of virtual reality.

I piloted a space fighter and got shot out of a tunnel and I did a loop and my stomach dropped because it felt that real.

This new Oculus Rift model isn't available for consumers so there are still some major upgrades to be expected in the near future, as some objects will appear fuzzy and it looks like you're looking through a screen door. The Oculus Rift looks promising though, and once these minor issues are worked out it will be a truly revolutionary device in the gaming world.

You're not just observing a virtual world, you're immersed in it. There's a table in front of you, there's a world around you. I played a simple tower defense game demo built in Unreal Engine Four and I couldn't help but reach out and try to grab the stupid little goblins because they were right there. RIGHT THERE!
