Museums have been a staple for a variety of objects, most notably art. So it can seem a little odd that there have been museums dedicated to video gaming. Nowadays, there are plenty of museums or galleries dedicated to gaming. So it comes as no surprise that Britain receives its first National Videogame Arcade, located in Nottingham, England, in the coming year.

The museum will be due in March 2015, and the building will house 12,000 objects that reflect gaming history. Themed exhibitions, educational programs, and specially commissioned works will appear in the arcade. According to Iain Simons, the director of the museum, not only will there be hardware, software, computers, cartridges, and CD-ROMs, but there will be fanfiction and fanart that are dedicated to games, representing how video games are a part of many people's lives and interests. After all, Simons believes that video games are a journey enhanced by human communication. This project will cost about £2.5 million, or $3,998,875 US. The project is also backed by Ian Livingstone.

I think that this is a brilliant idea. Though I haven’t heard of video game museums including fanfiction or fanart, I think those two assets will be important because they exhibit the general human closeness to video games. In a way, the museum becomes more of an art form or piece that represents society’s love for video games. Would you find the video game museum worth a visit? For those living outside the area, would you travel there to see the video game museum? I definitely would someday, given the chance.
