The Internationals are happening right now, which is super: the world's greatest teams are getting together to battle it out for $23 million in prize money and the honor of being the world's greatest DOTA 2 team until next year rolls around. It's a pretty exciting time to be a fan, because after all, it is, at the end of the day, all for us common users: which is why Valve thought it'd be a great idea to announce their next actual game (they still do that?!) at the event.
Ladies and gentleman, let me introduce you too... Artifact!
...A DOTA 2 card game!
While we don't know much about it, we do have a basic outline of how it works. You have several lanes, and you play cards to either attack down a lane or defend it with heroes or minions. Seems alright. But you know who's not alright? The fans. In fact, when it was first revealed to be a DOTA 2 card game, the crowd at the internationals actually groaned. And why wouldn't they? This is Valve's first new game in ages and it's going to be a TCG based off of DOTA, when there are literally half a dozen other games fans would really rather Valve be working on right now.
But instead, they're just chasing after the Hearthstone/Gwent train. As our President would say, "SAD".
Artifact is set to be released in 2018.
