You’ve heard of episodic games, made most famous by Telltale games, who used that release schedule exclusively for their catalog of adventure games until they shut down. But Half-Life also has a pretty noteworthy history with the episodic structure, since the second Half-Life was supposed to be released in a series of episodes as well.
And Valve quite famously botched the job.
Now, they’re tempting fate again with new, episodic Half-Life, this time, releasing the Half-Life Alyx soundtrack in episodic chunks. Chapter 1, which they’ve called Entanglement, features nine tracks in 320K MP3 and FLAC formats, and is planned to be be followed by ten more, featuring "industrial, electronic, experimental and orchestral cinematic pieces, alternating between abstract environmental, emotional soundscapes and direct action oriented cues."
And yes, I’m not too proud to make the obvious joke: we’ll never get past episode two, because Valve can’t count to three.
Anyway, you can grab the album for around $10, which will net you every “episode” when it eventually comes out over the coming weeks and months. You can also stream it through Spotify. I haven’t listened to it yet, but if you’re looking for a straight rip of the music from the game, you’ll be disappointed: Valve is being far more ambitious than that.
Anyway, sounds neat. You'll find the soundtrack on the official Steam page.
