Campo Santo, the developers behind the first-person mystery adventure game Firewatch, has been acquired by Valve. The studio recently made the announcement via a blog post, detailing the deal.

Campo Santo's upcoming game, In The Valley of the Gods, will be released as a Valve title. The studio will still be allowed to develop the games they want, simply under the Valve umbrella.

"We had a series of long conversations with the people at Valve and everyone shared the satisfaction we take in working with people whose talents dwarf our own to make things we never thought possible. Both sides spoke about our values and how, when you get right down to it, we, as human beings, are hard-limited by the time we have left when it comes to making the things we care about and believe in. They asked us if wed all be interested in coming up to Bellevue and doing that there and we said yes."

Valve CEO Gabe Newell stated not long ago that the company is looking to get back into making and releasing new games. While most people are hoping for Valve themselves to release another Portal or Half-Life game, acquiring indie studios seems like a step in the right direction.

The blog post was about the Valve deal and didn't discuss any new information regarding In the Valley of the Gods. The game will allow the player to “explore a remote and ancient valley in the Egyptian desert, uncovering treasure and treachery in pursuit of a discovery that could bring you fame and fortune — or leave you for dead, buried beneath the sands,” according to the game’s Steam page. The dev team was able to confirm that the Valve deal will not change their intention to release the game on all consoles.
