Riot Games has announced plans for the first closed beta test for Valorant, their upcoming team hero shooter. Starting as early as next week, this will be the first time the general public will have a chance to play the game from home.
Announced in a blog post by Communications Associate Jeff Landa, they explain how the beta will work, when, and what kind of rewards to expect.
Who Can Participate in the Valorant Closed Beta?
The beta will be limited to two aspects: the country you live in and whether or not you applied for the beta.
Currently, only those in Europe, Canada, the United States, Turkey, Russia, and CIS Countries will be able to apply and play. If you don't have one yet, you also need to register for a Riot account and link that to a Twitch account.
Landa explains that invites will be limited to current server capacity. This means that total invites will vary by region and will increase over time as they increase server capacity.
When is the Valorant Closed Beta?
The Valorant Closed Beta will take place on April 7, at 2 PM CEST. Only those who have registered will be selected and invited to participate, though entry is not guaranteed.
While an official end time/date was not listed, they want to "keep closed beta as short as we can while getting additional regions online."
What Else Should I Know?
There are two things you should be aware of regarding the closed beta. First, know that any progress made in the game will NOT carry over to the main game when it launches. They cite gameplay changes and wanting everyone to start at the same line at launch as the reason.
The other is in regards to their microtransactions. Valorant will feature Points, a premium currency that players can spend real-life money on this currency, which can be redeemed for skins and other items. Players will be able to purchase and redeem Points during the closed beta.
Valorant Points and any items purchased will not be carried over after the beta. BUT, as a thank you to everyone helping test the store system, they will be given those points back along with a 20% bonus. So buying 1000 points in the beta will reward the player with 1200 points at launch.
Valorant will release in Summer 2020.
