But worry not, you reasonably cautious hypotheticals: Naughty Dog director of communications Arne Mayer spoke with IBtimes earlier, and had a ballpark estimate for exactly how long this next expansion would last: over three times as long, sitting at a fully-fleshed out 10 hour campaign.
Years ago, when we were asked if we were ever doing a single player expansion for Uncharted we always said, 'Well, we don't have the self-discipline to do that'. If we tried to do that we'd create a full game. There's no way we could, sort of, constrict and restrain ourselves, and that's exactly what was happening here. When we were doing story pitches, we were coming up with a game that would be over ten hours long and so we suddenly realized everything we said was true and we couldn't keep it short."
And yet, they’re still selling it as an expansion anyway. Good on them.
It’s yet uncertain what the future of Uncharted will actually be. While Naughty Dog seems sincere in their conviction when they say that Nathan Drake is retired for real, it seems unlikely that this will be the last or only expansion of the Uncharted universe. There’s still a lot of history to chart, after all.
