Uncharted developer Naughty Dog has stated on several fronts that while the Uncharted franchise itself might not be ending, long-time protagonist Nathan Drake won’t be appearing in subsequent games. And not content to just say that, the ending of Uncharted 4, the latest in the series, put a pretty definitive end to his globe-trotting adventures, while still leaving a door open for his secondary cast of characters to stretch their legs… an opportunity snagged by Uncharted 2’s Chloe Frazer, who’ll be teaming up with Uncharted 4 villain Nadine Ross in the upcoming “story expansion”, Uncharted: the Lost Legacy.

But if you’re hoping that maybe Nathan Drake would show up in that game, as another character or even as a cameo, then you’re gonna walk away disappointed: Naughty Dog reiterated over the PlayStation Blog that Nathan Drake’s story really is over. Really.

“We entertained a few possible ideas around including Nate as a secondary character. But everything we did felt superfluous because we tied it all up with Uncharted 4. We’re not going to touch on Nathan Drake in this, at all. You can sort of imagine Drake sitting on the couch playing Crash Bandicoot while Chloe and Nadine are off galavanting,”

The article also goes into details regarding the choice to put both Chloe and Nadine together, the kind of tools you’ll have available to you on your adventure, and the exciting locales you’ll be visiting. It also takes place six to twelve months after the events of Uncharted 4, with the search for a priceless relic (which is typically how these things start), the Tusk of Ganesh.

You can check out the article in full for more detail, but most of it is marketing stuff. Still, interesting, for Uncharted fans who are hungry for a clue as to where the franchise will likely be going… since you know Sony’s not about to let this series die.
