Ubisoft to Offer Free DLC to Apologize for Assassin's Creed: Unity

Not a bad deal, if you ask me.

As any Assassin’s Creeds fan would know, the latest major title in the franchise, Assassin’s Creed: Unity, is buggy and glitchly even as Assassin’s creeds games go, which bounces back and forth between hilarious, horrifying, and outright unplayable.   The game has rightly been panned by critics and fans for its glitchy nature, and while Ubisoft may have a reputation as a game developer without scruples, it’s nice to be reminded every once in a while that they’re still capable of human feeling.

In a blog post, Ubisoft Montreal boss Yannis Mallat apologized, saying:

"Unfortunately, at launch, the overall quality of the game was diminished by bugs and unexpected technical issues.  I want to sincerely apologize on behalf of Ubisoft and the entire Assassin's Creed team. These problems took away from your enjoyment of the game, and kept many of you from experiencing the game at its fullest potential."

Of course, an apology isn’t worth much on its own, and at least in this case Ubisoft has put its money where its mouth is.  As a way to make amends, Ubisoft has announced the next expansion pack for Assassin’s Creed: Unity, “Dead Kings”, will be made free for all players.  In addition, if you have the season pass or the Gold Edition, you’ll get a free Ubisoft game to cap that off-- Far Cry 4, The Crew, Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed Black Flag, Rayman Legends, or Just Dance 2015.

Additionally, if you got that $30 season pass, you’ll still get Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China, the 2D sidescroller, which currently is not being offered to people as an aplology.

While the next patch that will hopefully resolve many of the bugs is already on its way, it’s nice to see Ubisoft take responsibility for its actions and offer to make amends.
