So! There was recently a new promotional video published by Naughty Dog that looked at the story in the upcoming Finale of the Uncharted series. Check it out here:

Pretty neat, right? Really gets you into the mood for some adventure, you know? Well, you’ll be interested to note that this isn’t the original trailer. The original trailer was posted earlier today, but was soon pulled by Naughty Dog--with an accompanying apology--to be replaced by the above trailer. So what exactly happened?

Turns out, Naughty Dog may have taken a tip from ol’ Nathan Drake and stolen a thing or two. But rather than an international treasure that could possibly destroy the world, they stole a piece of art from Ubisoft's FLAGSHIP Assassin’s Creed title, Black Flag. Specifically, at the old 1:36 mark of the video, the screen zoomed in to this image:

Ring any bells? Probably not, but it rang a few over at Ubisoft, who recognized it as some slightly edited concept art from Black Flag. Fortunately, this didn’t turn into a drag-out battle between the two--the moment Ubisoft reached out to Naughty Dog, they folded.

“In our eagerness to get the story trailer out we made a regrettable mistake and didn’t thoroughly vet the artwork used for an in game painting. We’ve already updated the trailer. We hold all artistry in high regard and take full responsibility for having allowed this to happen.  We want to sincerely apologize to everyone at Ubisoft, the Assassin’s Creed team, the original artist, and our fans.”

So yeah, the drama came and went, but still, pretty interesting that it happened in the first place. Remember, kids--always double-check your work, and plagiarism is not cool.
