Ubisoft Plans on Punishing Glitch Exploiters in The Division

No tolerance for glitches... or at least, the good ones.

The Division, the latest mediocre game to come out of Ubisoft, is in something of a hot mess as of late: namely, now that people have reached the highest level and unlocked the best gear, they're starting to realize the game is quite boring... in addition to, you know... kind of evil. At least in a narrative sense.

But that was all set to change with the game's latest patch, which was set to include a new high-level instance called "Falcon Lost", which was lauded as being a top-tier challenge that would push even the most experienced players to their limits. And when it finally came out, people swarmed to it... only to discover it's just surviving 15 waves in a confined space with a bunch of bullet-sponge enemies.

So people have been disappointed and pissed. Still, they've been playing it, so it didn't take long for people to realize there was a instance-breaking glitch in Falcon Lost: you could clip through the wall, skip the boss, and simply collect the loot without having to bother with all that fighting. Armed with this knowledge, the under-qualified started playing Falcon Lost, and collecting the sweet, sweet endgame loot...

And now Ubisoft has decided to punish the players who have.

"We are working on fixing the exploit. Obviously it is against our Code of Conduct and the team is looking into what can be done in terms of punishment for those who have exploited."

As you can imagine, between the game getting boring and Ubisoft punishing people for having used a glitch they left in the game, this has not proven to be a popular move by Ubisoft, and they've received a more-than-healthy dose of anger from their player base. This, of course, was one of the rare examples of a 'useful' bug in a game chalk-full of bad ones, from people falling through floors to entire characters being deleted, so the fact that Ubisoft is punishing them rather than compensating those who were hurt by all the other bugs is, well... more than a little disappointing.

But what can we do?

...Other than stop playing, I mean.
