This is the kind of news Video Game Journalists stay awake all night dreaming about-- not because it involves a particular game or because it’s especially good news, but because it’s so different, so out there, and involves one of the most hated companies in the gaming world… how could I not be excited!?
But yes, yes, the news itself: as the title has already spoiled, Ubisoft has decided it’s going to open a new, 10,000-square-meter indoor theme park. A Ubisoft-themed indoor theme park. I am not kidding--this is 100% real.
The park will be opened in 2020 in Malaysia, and the hope is to create a world where you can live the life of a hero for a day, according to Jean de Rivieres:
“Ubisoft’s intention for this park is to immerse people in reactive worlds where they can interact with each other and become the heroes of their own life-sized game. Ubisoft will produce all digital media for the rides, and help design guests’ journey into the park to ensure the visitors’ experience is at its best. Malaysia is the second-most-visited country in Asia. There is room for multiple projects to take root in the region and a growing middle class with an increasing income and appetite for entertainment.”
So, right now, we know next to nothing about what all will be involved, or even what it’s called, but that genuinely doesn’t matter: what really matters here is that Ubisoft is making a theme park. How many times do I have to say that before it stops making me giggle cuz I don’t know. Just remember, five years is a long ways away, so don’t pre-order your tickets yet--there will likely be lots bugs and some glitches to iron out. Oh, and bring your wallet, you just know after you get the ticket there’ll be tons of microtransactions, like food and souvenirs. Cosmetic DLC by way of T-Shirts will also probably be available day one…
Heheh. Oh, man, I could go on…
