Obsidian and Paradox have delivered us a new title to hype up. Tyranny unveiled itself to be a dark game in the same engine as Pillars of Eternity. Set in a hopeless world, dominated by evil, Tyranny puts players in the role of a high ranking official on the side of the bad guys. The game's story begins with a choice, continue to follow your overlord and terrorize the land, or rise against him to take it all for yourself.

A wholesome, good time, to be sure

The game takes a lot from Pillars. Of course, everything starts with character creation. Players customize their appearance as well as their skills. Without any archetype classes, each character has a combination of skills to define their prowess. Combat is generally broken down into one-handed weapons, two-handed weapons, thrown weapons, and magic. Players are free to mix and match what they want. Weapons, gear, and magic have some form of upgrades. In fact, players can even craft their own spells. Part of the choice in the game is whether or not to make alliances and gain companions. If so, these companions help in combat, even chaining their attacks with yours. Just as the main character can have many different skills, so can companions. Making a balanced team is a major priority in surviving Tyranny.

Sadly, Tyranny is single player only. Companions can only be AI controlled. Players can give them commands, though. Regardless, this game still gives gamers a chance to give evil a try, without being punished for it. Be on the lookout for Tyranny, as it is expected to launch later this year.
