Twitter Removes MS-DOS Function for Tweets

Fun’s over folks, old man Twitter has caught on.

So last week, it was discovered by gamers that there was a little quirk in Twitter that allowed Tweet-ers (or whatever they call themselves) to embed classic MS-DOS PC games in the contents of their tweets. The data of these ancient games was so small and have since been reformatted by the folks over at Archive.org, that it was a trivial matter to put a fully playable game in a tweet, for the world to enjoy at home or on the go.

Well, all good things must come to an end, but usually it takes longer than just a week. However, in this particular case, as cool as this was it was doomed from the start; tucked away in Twitter’s Terms of Service, it clearly forbids the use of using Twitter to advertise any kind of interactive medium, which, to the uninitiated, is the definition of a game. Thus, the feature has been removed, and any ‘interactive’ tweet must be in the form of a choose-your-own-adventure.

Sadly, we probably would have gotten a bit more mileage out this feature if so many news outlets like Gamerzunite didn’t boast about it so loudly. That said, it’s sure as heck not our fault the folks over at Twitter are a bunch of killjoys.

Either way, it’s hardly the end of the world. Archive.org still exists, and you can still play hundreds of classic games for free. Heck, you can still embed them too, so… go nuts, internet!

...I would have embedded something myself, but... not sure our website allows that, so... awkward, right?
