Twitch channels have flamers. That's just been a fact we've had to deal with. The popular streamers (see: those with actual subscribers) have to deal with insults and hate speech with every broadcast. And, as we can all guess, this is even worse for female streamers. The more popular they get, the harder it is to actually moderate all the comments. However, Twitch's new AutoMod is here to help.
Twitch's AutoMod is set up to preemptively filter the flame from the legitimate comments. This gives the actual moderators a condensed list of questionable content to consider. This helps keep the massive workload at manageable levels. The feature also allows each streamer to tweak how sensitive to make their version of AutoMod. That way, everybody can have the appropriate level of care and filtering they need.
Of course, AutoMod doesn't fix the underlying problem: some Twitch users are simply adamant about spewing toxic language around. It may be to compensate for shortcomings or just for attention, but they've always done it. AutoMod won't stop them from trying. While it is set up to try and catch slurs, even if they're misspelled, it may be only a matter of time before trolls figure out how to bypass it. Then again, maybe Twitch can stay ahead of the hate and keep control of the situation.
