Twitch Bans Destiny and m0e for a Month over Hate Speech

Not a full speech, just one or two words.

Twitch streamers, unfortunately, rarely have a reputation for being role models of the gaming community. More often than not, they rocket to fame because they’re rude, abrasive, and “raw,” which makes them a bit more enjoyable to watch than the straight-faced friendly people we really need more of in the community. But being “entertainingly rude” and “offensively rude” is a thin line to walk, and it seems Twitch has started stepping up the punishments against streamers who tip from one side to the other.

Specifically, mid-tier streamers Destiny and m0e have reported that they’ve been hit by 30-day bans from the service thanks to some homophobic slurs and insults the two of them had been hurling around casually.

Destiny explained his ban in a YouTube video, where he listed off all the reasons he could be banned (calling someone ‘a retard’, or saying "maybe they should f@#king shoot Cubans or whatever that are swimming over to the US or some s@#t, like my mom wants to do to Mexicans”)… which, to be fair, are both terrible things to say, but he thinks it’s the other f-word, the one that means bundle of sticks, is the primary reason he gets the banned.

m0e’s story was similar, and he admitted he was surprised he got banned for it. He claimed his banning was caused by one of his favorite words, that it had a lot of meanings, and "I use the word 'faggot' to call people 'retards'," which is a direct quote from him and is a perfect example of someone missing the point.

Regardless, Twitch has historically had a bad history of enforcing its own guidelines, and this might not signal a change in the winds. After all, it’s easy to justify banning these two, but big-tier streamers might still get a pass. That said, even Ninja lost 40k subscribers after a 2-day absence, so for these two streamers, it probably means their Twitch careers are over.

Oh no.
