Is a temporary ban justified?

Swatting - a threat or prank that's just plain uncool. This form of crime, which involves reporting a false wrongdoing to a SWAT team that then raids the victim's home, is often abused by angry or malicious gamers. In the end, this prank causes a lot of grief for the victims and their families.

Swatting still occurs to this day, and it can be conducted by anyone. The latest pranker affiliated with the term is Trick2g, a well-known League of Legends streamer on Twitch. Though he has an off-the-wall, prankster behavior, he took the phrase of "clowning around" a tad too far. Via Twitch's live stream, Trick2g faked a swat attack in front of viewers, which led to the conking via mighty banhammer of Twitch for what was originally believed to be four months.

Since the staged event, Team2g issued this statement:

"To take that stream ending serious is absurd, Trick was laughing, the person used was NOT in disguise and was the same person who was on the stream all day yesterday setting up cameras and assisting the stream. The ending was scheduled for 3PM which again if thought process was used in any way, one would know that a swat team would not wait until the end of a stream to engage.

We don’t have to always be politically correct to have a sense of humor and we don’t have to hide the fact that we think something is funny simply because someone might not."

Many fans of Trick2g thus raised their voices in response to defend the player, even going so far as to vocalize their concerns on Twitter with the hashtag #FreeTrick.

Since then, a Twitch representative revealed on Reddit that Trick2g's ban is not permanent nor will it last for four months. That's some good news then, at least, because even though swatting is a serious offense and should be taken seriously, they were, as the statement noted, simply trying to be funny.
