Treyarch Discuss Lessons Learned By Black Ops 4 Beta

They learned a lot about minimaps, apparently.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 players just enjoyed a few weekends of multiplayer betas, which is great because that’s really the only thing the game has to offer now that they’re scrapping the single-player modes. We’re still a few months from release, which means that developer Treyarch has a bit of time to fix up any problems that players discovered during that beta.

That’s pretty standard industry fare, but what’s more interesting is that this go-around, Treyarch has decided to be a bit more transparent and detail exactly what it is they’re deciding to change now that the beta’s over.

Over on Reddit, they had this to say:

"With Black Ops 4 Multiplayer, one of our biggest priorities has been to add depth to gameplay for an experience that will be more rewarding the longer you play it: we’ve added variety to combat, increased differentiation in gameplay items, extended counter play, and tightened the nuances of movement and gunplay. What you played in the Beta was an early version of all those changes working together for a game that we hope you found both familiar and new, challenging and rewarding, and fun for casual and competitive players alike. There is a meta to the game that will unfold over time, so we took a slightly conservative approach to changes in the Beta until all the gameplay data had been reviewed and digested. Now, we have a wealth of information and are excited to get to work polishing the game for launch."

I never played the beta so I have no idea how true any of this is, but it is kinda neat to show a studio continue to engage with an audience even after the beta is all wrapped up. Hopefully, fans are happy with the suggested changes, so we can get this future trainwreck moving smoothly.
