So in case you didn’t hear, Dragon’s Dogma is being re-released on the Switch, which is something you should absolutely pick up because it’s one of the greatest RPG’s ever and I love it to tiny pieces. Heck, I’ve written up five reasons why you should give this forgotten gem of a previous generation a go, but if you need a sixth, then Suda51 – yeah, that Suda51 – has just what you’re looking for.
Y’see, he was recently on a livestream promoting some new DLC that would be coming out for his widely-panned Nintendo Switch exclusive, Travis Strikes Again. That’s not important. No one thinks that’s important. What is important, however, is that in that livestream he also revealed that the aforementioned Travis would be showing up in the Switch version of Dragon’s Dogma as a summonable pawn.
You’ll find the announcement at around 43 minutes. It’s all in Japanese, and… pretty lame.
Due to the severe limitations on the game, this isn’t like the kind of crossover you see in Monster Hunter World. It’s more that they had some intern do his best to re-create Travis as a pawn, but they did give him two unique assets: a lightsaber katana and his iconic (?) power gloves. He’ll be available to summon for free (costing nothing but out and in-game), so if you really want to give him a go, he should be pretty painless to find.
Oh, and as part of this promotion/crossover, there will be a Dragon’s Dogma shirt you can get in Travis Strikes Again. But I reiterate, no one cares about that.
This is interesting but I guess I wouldn’t call it terribly surprising. Capcom loves their crossovers, and they indulge in them all the time. But typically, Dragon's Dogma has been excluded from these events, as it is something of a black sheep in the Capcom library, so I’ll take what I can get.
