Total War: Warhammer Mods Work "In Theory" With Warhammer 2

It'll require a bit of work, but it'd be worth it.

These days, it always feels far too common for video games on the PC to be less about the main game itself and more of a platform for the dozens upon dozens of mods that are no doubt going to follow in the wake of the game's release. And heck, that's not a bad thing! Far from it: oftentimes these mods make the game worth playing in the first place, and can add countless hours of enjoyment to a game. It seems Total War: Warhammer 2 developer Creative Assembly knows that, and while their upcoming sequel might not have any mods made for it yet, Game Designer Mark Sinclair assured Gamewatcher that it would be easy to move any current mods you have to the new game... assuming the developer puts in some legwork, that is.

The way it will work is that the mods that were created for the first Total War: Warhammer will be only for Warhammer. They are two different and separate games, so you can’t necessarily just use a Warhammer mod in Warhammer 2. That said, theoretically, we’ve made it possible to transfer a mod from Warhammer to Warhammer 2. There will have to be some work on the part of the modder to make sure it’s compatible, but ideally it should be relatively straightforward.

So all the mods you have that that give you crazy armies and weird powers, those could make the jump to the new game. I'm not sure if this is a feature that's unique to Warhammer, or if it's true for any sequel and it's just an unspoken bit of trivia, but either way, it's good news for modders and their fans alike.

That said, it'll still suck if you love an abandoned mod, where the developer won't put the time in to update it. Way to rub salt in the wound, guys.

Total War: Warhammer 2 will launch on September 28 for the PC. No word yet on a Switch port.
