After nearly a decade, the Torchlight series returns with Torchlight 3

Originally known as Torchlight Frontiers, series director Max Schaefer reveals the game's new title, as well as the company's plans for the game here forward.

Schaefer reveals a variety of new information pertaining to Torchlight, including changing the name from Frontiers to Torchlight 3. He explains that most of the changes and directions that were taken were based on feedback given by their alpha game testers and community members.

The change in direction also comes with a change in monetization. Schaefer explains that Torchlight 3 will have a "premium model." The industry standard, this means that you pay for it once and you have access to everything the game has to offer. The game will also be available on Steam when it releases.

Torchlight 3 will offer a greater degree of personal customization. An example of this is with a new Fort option. Players will be able to build and upgrade their own fort, where they can manage their gear and decorate. You never know when you might have guests, after all.

The game will feature new classes, as well. The official website showcases three new classes, the Dusk Mage, the Forged, and the Railmaster. They also tease a fourth class but have not given any details about it.
  • The Dusk Mage is a magic wielder that controls the balance between darkness and light. They use this power to release powerful attacks on groups of enemies.
  • The Forged, a large mechanical warrior, builds up literal steam as they fight, which can be released in an explosive area of effect attack.
  • The Railmaster is the conductor of his own fate. They build tracks along the level, guiding their large and intimidating train to deal massive damage.
Torchlight 3 will release some time in 2020 on PC. The final game price has not been revealed. For more information, visit the official website.
