There was yet another interview with Bethesda Game Studios game director Todd Howard. And with it, we learned a few more details about the upcoming multiplayer game, Fallout 76.
The interview was with multiplayer.it (in Italian). Most of the new information given were short answers with little follow-up. However, a few important statements regarding the game were expanded on. It started with why exactly they called it Fallout 76, instead of Fallout Online, like with the Elder Scrolls. Howard stated that he felt it more accurately portrayed the identity he wanted for the game. He joked that the next 70 Fallouts will be single player, so he felt it was safe to go with 76 for the online variation.
They also expanded on the purpose of personal home bases. When asked whether the player can expect people to go around destroying your base or not. Howard explains that restoring your base is easy. The destruction isn't for raiders to come in and wreck up the place but for players to be able to break free if someone tried to trap them with a construction.
Howard reassured new players that PVP harassment will not be a game-breaking aspect. Aside from various other fail-safes, Howard confirmed that players under level 5 will not be killable in PVP. He made it clear that this is not set in stone and may change. Since previous interviews stated that PVP is optional overall, we aren't sure exactly what this distinction means.
The most interesting bit from the interview may have been what Todd Howard didn't say. When talking about how the player will get missions (robots, radio, holotapes), he was asked if other players can give you quests. Instead of a firm answer, he responded with a "not exactly" and stated he couldn't say more. There's already the informal idea of simply telling a player "hey, go kill this raider, and I'll give you this cool gun" seems obvious, this may mean that players can assign these quests to each other as part of the game. As to exactly how remains a mystery. Personally, I'd love a build-a-quest style feature, where you could make a quest and give it to others.
The final two items of note are that fast travel is confirmed to be a part of the game and that there will not be any mounts or vehicles, though no further details were given on either.
Fallout 76 is due to be released November 14, 2018.
