Recently, Respawn Entertainment’s new game Titanfall has been making headlines regarding the excellence in its interesting design, intuitive use of AI filler-bots, tight and entertaining gameplay, and overall entertainment value. Apparently. this drew a fair deal of attention from gamers, because the stats recently came in for the player-count, and they’re rather amazing. Like, 2 million people insane. As in, that many people in the four days the open beta had been available. Beyond promotional purposes, however, these 2 million also served in testing Xbox Live’s cloud-computing technology, as Respawn engineer Jon Shiring revealed to Polygon.

"Forza used it a little bit, but they weren't as reliant on it as we are. The game is completely reliant on it. If it's down, nobody can play."

While interesting to see the ways in which this service can be used, and more so how well a game wholly dependent on is capable of running, this is something that people may need to be wary of. While Microsoft does a good job of keeping their servers and services up and running, issues with any technology are inevitable. Either by compatibility issues with an update, or server failures, there IS going to be a time in which the game and its reliance on cloud computation are going to come under fire, particularly if it leads to something as bad as an extended period of down time. But, any issues will always be fixable, and if you can watch the gameplay below and say that Titanfall’s good outweighs the potential bad, then maybe the game just isn’t for you at all.[/background]
