Titanfall 2 is doing everything right, and far more competently than the game it's the sequel to.  Despite a shaky start, not only does it have a robust, emotionally charged single-player mode, by all accounts the Multiplayer has been spruced up considerably.  But that's not all: unlike some games, where we can expect boatloads of extra maps, modes, and weapons to be locked behind DLC, Titanfall 2 is taking that one extra step of consideration and making all of it's DLC absolutely free--the CD Projekt Red approach, if you'd like.

Well, the first batch of free DLC is coming, and it's going to be a controversial one. Called ‘Angel City’s Most Wanted’, it will include a new map, and an in-game store.

Now, here's where things get a little iffy: the in-game store is, ultimately, going to be a venue for microtransactions, where you pay stuff and you get stuff, such as weapon and character skins.  So, that's bad.  But on the other hand, it's not like Overwatch, or Uncharted, or Gears of War 4.  You're not paying for boxes which you can open that may or may not have the thing you're looking for.  Rather, you just see what you want, you pay for it, done and done.  While it's still an in-game store that blocks content behind a paywall, at least there's no obnoxious RNG determining if you get what you want or not... an unquestionably more friendly way to dish things out.

Add to that the fact that all this content is purely cosmetic, and you've got a fairly tame in-game store.  And considering everything that really matters, the maps and mechs, will all remain free... more than forgivable.

Either way, you can look forward to Angel City's Most Wanted come November 30th.
